TIN2013-40982-R Swarm intelligent systems unmanned for safety and surveillance tasks

Summary

The use of systems of swarm, with completely distributed control, the development of conduct collaborative using UAVs is a highly innovative topic that represents a significant technological leap, since the vast majority of applications of current UAVs either rely on a single UAV or use completely centralized control, with the drawbacks that this entails.

In this project we intend to move from multiple perspectives:

  • On the one hand, a Simulator will be developed for testing the behavior of swarm that takes into account the specific characteristics of operation of UAVs
  • In addition, will be studied (individual) microscopic behaviors of swarm, with emphasis on their applicability to security tasks
  • To analyze behaviors are the formation of patterns of flight, patrol, surveillance, monitoring, distributed deployment of swarm and search for resources
  • Note that these behaviors allow to get a swarm of UAVs capable of: patrolling exclusion zones, monitor borders, follow goals collaboratively, deploy a network of local transmission, search resources, etc.

Modeling of swarm

On the other hand, the microscopic behaviors will validate providing macroscopic models which enable to verify the overall functioning of the swarm. It is essential, once established the microscopic behavior of the swarm and validated its experimental operation, mathematically prove what the trend of the swarm States globally as well as know the distribution of the swarm in the space. Both Bayesian models such as physical models based on the quantum mechanics will be used for this purpose. The behaviors that are required, will run in a swarm of real UAVs.

This is a fundamental requirement to correctly adjust the behaviors and test their performance in a real environment. Our research group has experience in the installation, inspection and flight vehicles UAVs. Once tested the actual operation of the provided behaviors you will pass to the phase of transfer of technology developed in the society.

Expected impact of the project

The impact of this project is substantial in all (I, II, III and IV) priorities challenge 8 of this call. Scientific and technical level will be the publication of models of swarm in impact journals. The registration of ownership of UAVs swarm as well as publications impact Simulator will be provided. An electronic control module that will be protected by patent for exploitation shall be provided. From an economic and social point of view, we believe that this project will have a major impact, either by way of exploitation of the patent or by the commercial outlet that may be the creation of an EBT focused on this field.
