Faculties and centres
The multidisciplinary Applied Petrology Group was created at the University of Alicante in 1992, although its members have been collaborating for 20 years. It has been linked to the CSIC (Scientific Research Centre) through the CSIC-University of Alicante Associated Unit since March 2001, and is classed as a Quality Group (Research Group 03/158) by the Valencian Regional Government.
The Applied Petrology Group carries out intensive research in the fields of petrology and geochemistry (Research Interests). The group's most significant findings have been published in international journals (SCI) and presented at specialised conferences (Publications). Its scientific and applied research activities use a wide range of analytical instrumentation, chiefly in the Laboratory of Applied Petrology (Installations and Equipment). Some examples of our work are shown in the video group.
The Applied Petrology Group is part of several research networks and working groups, such as RTPHC (the Historical and Cultural Heritage Thematic Network of the CSIC), the RedPNAT (the Natural Stone Thematic Network), the PREN (the Natural Stone Research Network) and the Natural Stone Laboratory Working Group. The Laboratory of Applied Petrology also provides technical support to companies in the natural stone industry (Analysis and Consulting), while maintaining various agreements with entities in the sector.
