ITINERARIOS 

(1) Los alumnos que no vayan a acceder al periodo de investigación y decidan cursar el itinerario 1: Profesionalizante, obligatoriamente, deberán realizar la asignatura de “Prácticas externas en empresa” de 6 créditos ECTS durante el cuatrimestre 1º ó 2º.

 (2) Los alumnos que vayan a acceder al periodo de investigación, obligatoriamente, deberán escoger el itinerario 2: Investigador y cursar las asignaturas “introducción a la Investigación” ofertada en el cuatrimestre 1, y la asignatura “Técnicas avanzadas de investigación aplicadas a la gestión de la edificación” ofertada en el cuatrimestre 2. 

En ambos itinerarios se cursarán 3 ECTS del Proyecto fin de Máster en cada semestre.

Mobility and exhange programmes

The EPS Mobility Office is responsible of the management of mobility programmes both nationally and internationally (SICUE, ERASMUS, non-European, etc.) in order to favour the mobility of the University collective of our centre.

Administrative procedures as the application form, the selection of students or the assignment, must be carried out directly in The Mobility Secretariat of the University of Alicante. It is that service, located in the International Relations Building, number 23 on  campus map  (Jorge Juan Builiding), where you can ask all questions you have about these issues and in their website you have all regulatory documentation and relevant information for these procedures.

In the case of the EPS, we take care of mainly academic issues: the registration of assignments, learning agreements, or the translation of the records to your file. Work experience

This master's degree, adapted to the Real Decreto 1393 / 2007 counts as compulsory internships in your professional itinerary . These practices have as a priority form to technicians with an innovative and strategic vision of the challenges facing companies in the sector specializing in the management of the building .

Practices in companies are not working, but academic. Its aim is that the student know the institutional, business and labor realityof their environment in the field of their profession, and at the same time gain valuable professional experience. The richness of nuances of the real business may never be equalled by the typical constraints of the classroom, by this reason intends that the student obtains an edifying experience in private companies and public institutions, enabling you to apply their previous knowledge and expand their skills.

Given the nature of University and postgraduate course in these studies, practices in companies must respond to the rigor of the same, distinguishing the activities to be developed by these students of those that are specific to other levels of training such as degrees. For this reason, in this program is a brief description of what might be some of the tasks to be performed by the students, among which there is evidence of the possibility of carrying out studies on specific themes at the same time to the accomplishment of the tasks of the partner institution's own. Companies interested can join a master's student to make one of these projects or propose an alternative project.

This intersection between the universities and the productive sector should not limited to a mere exchange of students during a space of time, but should facilitate and promote a smoother communication among them. Be the starting point of a permanent and fruitful cooperation on the issue of building management.

The purpose in the making of this program is to give a series of guidelines and basic criteria that guide about what aspects and basic tasks covered by the stay in practice. It is also a document in which it detailed procedures and rules that will govern stays in practices of the master's degree in construction management.

Registration requirements

Enrolment . The student must enroll in the compulsory subject of 6 ECTS credits of internship. You can study in the first or second semester according to the practices to perform. The "internships" course will allow the student to ascribed to any of the following options:

  1. Mode a:  Realization of a stay in practices in an organization to perform a specific project in it, simultaneously addressed by an academic tutor and a reference person in the company, henceforth, guardian of the company.
  2. Mode b:  Development of a proposal or research projects commissioned to the Escuela Politécnica Superior by private or public companies through the direction of some of their research groups.
  3. Mode c:  Preparation of reports, projects or works of interest general of the University of Alicante through the Vice-rectorship of infrastructures or any other Vice-Rectorate related to the context of the work, directed and supervised by academic tutor.

Duration.   Stay in practice is a compulsory subject which has allocated 6 ECTS, which translates into 150 h. of permanence in the dependencies of the collaborating entity and personal student work for the realization of memories or project of practices or indirect execution of assigned activities.

Final-Year Master's degree Project

All official Master's degree courses will be completed with the preparation and public defence of a Master's Final Project (MFP), which must be carried out in the final phase of the study programme and focused on the evaluation of the Master’s content.

The MFP will be an original, self-reliant and individual work, which may also be coordinated, in which case each student will carry it out under the guidance of a tutor who will allow the student integrate all the content and the skills acquired associated with the Master’s degree.

The tutor’s task will consist of guiding, advising and planning student activities, monitoring the activities during the period that they carried out the project, and collaborating in everything that allows for a good achievement.

The MFP can be organised in several experimental and academic modalities, depending on the Master’s content, as well as on its professional, research and academic approach.

The assignment of the work proposed by the departments and that requested by the students will be carried out in accordance with the procedure established by the School Board.

Through the platform established for this purpose, students may choose one of the MFP offered by the departments. In addition, each student may propose a topic of their own.

The registration for the MFP will be completed within the deadlines established by the University of Alicante each academic year.

Credit recognition and transfer 

Credit Recognition is the approval by a university of those credits which, having been obtained in other official degrees, in the same or another university, are counted for the purpose of obtaining an official degree in other universities. In other words, it is the acceptance of subjects passed in university studies when the student begins a new degree. The term of "recognition" has replaced the old concept of validation/adaptation.

Credit Transfer refers to the process of including, in the student record and in all official academic documents accrediting the courses taken by each student, all the credits obtained in official courses taken previously in the same or another university, which have not led to the awarding of an official degree.

Master's degree coordinators 

The University of Alicante’s AUDIT programme has been certified for all its centres. For this reason, the Polytechnic School (EPS) has implemented an Internal Quality Assurance System to manage vertical and horizontal teaching coordination in all its degree programmes.

Applicable regulations 

 

Continuation of Studies for Master’s degrees

The University of Alicante Social Council approved a new regulation on the continuation of Master’s studies, dated May 29, 2018 (BOUA 5-6-18), in accordance with a new teaching/learning model focused on students, within the philosophy of the European Higher Education Area. 

 

Assessment of learning outcomes

The UA Governing Council has issued regulations on assessment and marking procedures and criteria, programmes and examination sessions, publication of marks, the mark review and complaint procedure (where appropriate), and completion and modification of final mark records.

These regulations bring teaching planning criteria in line with the continuous assessment system implemented in current UA official degrees, and combine and update previous regulations.

The most relevant measures are:

  • Continuous assessment, which as a general rule will be the applicable assessment system.
  • Alternative assessment systems are available for students eligible for curriculum adjustments.
  • Assessment criteria will be public and objective. Prior to the registration periods, they will be included in the course description of all subjects and cannot be modified during the academic year without due cause.
  • Course descriptions will contain a list of assessment activities and specify which can be retaken or resubmitted and which cannot.
  • There are two assessment periods: a regular examination session and a resit session, as per the academic year calendar.
  • The final examination schedule can be modified only in cases of force majeure. The final examination dates of all subjects will be known before the registration periods. The place will be published at least 30 days in advance.
  • Marks will be numerical, on a scale of 0 to 10, with one decimal place. A distinction with honours may be awarded to students having achieved a mark of 9 or higher. In each subject, up to 5% of enrolled students may receive a distinction with honours (maximum 1 student for subjects with up to 20 students).
  • Results of partial and final examinations will be published on UACloud (for partial examinations, within 30 calendar days; for final examinations, within the time frame set out in the academic calendar). In the case of final examinations, the place, date and time of the examination review will be published at least 48 hours in advance.
  • The mark review and complaint procedure is introduced.

What are curriculum adjustments? Who can request them?

Curriculum adjustments are academic and technical actions that, at a student's request, can be implemented in order to help the student take full advantage of the academic year and facilitate admission and continuation of studies. Curriculum adjustment management will be based on the principles of confidentiality and privacy.

Students eligible for curriculum adjustments are divided into two categories:

  • First category. Students who provide proof that they have at least 33% physical, sensory or mental disability and students with specific educational needs due to health conditions, whether congenital or acquired.
  • Second category. Students who provide proof that they are elite, high-level or university athletes. Victims of gender-based violence. Students who have recently given birth, adopted or fostered children. Students in charge of children less than 3 years old or caring for dependent family members. Students whose working hours are incompatible with attending classes. Members of UA governing bodies, participants in tournaments or cultural or academic activities as UA representatives, and participants in mobility programmes.

Adjustment applications must be submitted two weeks before the start of the academic year or semester. As an exception, applications due to unexpected circumstances may be submitted anytime.

Applications of first-category students will be submitted to the Student Support Centre. Applications of second-category students will be addressed to the centre (faculty/polytechnic school).

Adjustments may fall into either of the two following categories:

  • In-class support, concerning adjustments in relation to materials, lighting/sound quality in the classroom, work placements or academic contents, or use of alternative or complementary communication systems. Excused absences (maximum 25% of lessons per subject) may also fall into this category.
  • Examination-related adjustments. This category includes extending the time available for completing the exam or using alternative communication systems to transcribe the exam.
