Internal democracy is the University of Alicante's guiding principle, and so all members of the University community can take part in university management and management control.
According this principle, students are entitled to representation in all levels of University government.
Elections for Department and Institute Councils, Faculties and Schools Senates and Boards, as well as to the General Senate are called out periodically. Students are represented in the Governing Council and the Social Council.
Any student can run for the election, either individually or collectively.
The highest body of student representation is the Student Council , which is located in Lecture Building 1 ( Building 25 on the university map ), and made up by the student representatives in the General Senate and in the Faculties and School Boards.
The University of Alicante Student Council sees to the proper functioning of the University, connects UA students with students from other universities, and defends their interests. A standing committee and a president are elected among its members.
The president of the Student Council represents the students of the University of Alicante.
All UA centres (faculties and the polytechnic school) have a Student Representation. Students also choose their classrepresentative every year.
Which student associations are there at the University?
A distinction should be made between the associations whose main purpose is to represent the students and, therefore, run for the student election, and associations whose purposes are other —academic, professional, international, study, University Music Groups (Tunas), etc.
There are associations of practically all kinds of political and ideological beliefs within the student associations, and there are also associations of Faculties and Schools.
