Students pursuing undergraduate degrees at the University of Alicante must certify foreign language level B1 (B2 recommended) to obtain the title.
To this end, foreign language accreditation can be achieved as follows:
By passing the placement test organised at the University on a regular basis (at least three times a year).
By pursuing foreign language level certificates from other accredited administrations and bodies included in Annex II of UA regulations on internal language competence accreditation.
By enrolling in UA foreign language undergraduate courses included in Annex I of UA regulations on internal language competence accreditation and complete them successfully.
By enrolling in courses using a foreign language as the teaching language. They should have been approved for this purpose if they are assigned to a UA degree. If they are from a foreign university (usually placed through mobility programmes), credits must be recognised in the UA corresponding degree).
Undergraduate degrees in language studies and translation/interpreting certify level C2 in the corresponding language level.
Primary, secondary and baccalaureate studies taught in a foreign language in centres other other than those belonging to the Spanish education system, will be awarded the following equivalence:
Internal foreign language level accreditation of courses taught at other universities or any other cases not included in UA regulations, can be applied for at UA Languages Service.
Foreign language level accreditation is now included in the UA's undergraduate degrees core curriculum.
UA students enrolled in undergraduate degrees being phased out are not subject to this foreign language requirement to graduate from this university
UA is clearly committed to providing students with foreign language competence acquisition. To this end, we offer degree courses and groups in English (more than 200 degree courses), promote internationalisation through mobility programmes (Erasmus, non-European Mobility), teach funded foreign language courses so that students can get their compulsory Level B1 accreditation (B2 recommended) to graduate from UA.
However, please note that the University of Alicante DO NOT teach official undergraduate degrees totally in languages other than the official languages in the region of Valencia, except for the Master's Degree in in Quantitative Economics that is taught in English.
Apart from actual language courses (e.g. Business English in the undergraduate degree in Business Administration or French Language Teaching Methods in the undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education), most of the study programmes of both undergraduate and Master's degrees include other courses taught in a foreign language (mainly English).
Students can apply for these courses taught in a foreign language during the enrolment period through English teaching groups. To apply for these courses, students are not required to have a certain level of the language. It is the students' responsibility to assess their skills of the language.
These courses are taught using English as the working language in the classroom as well as in the bibliography and the materials used. Students are not forced to use the foreign language to express themselves and ask questions in the class or in their assignments and exams.
High Academic Performance Groups (HAP) are intended to reinforce the potential of most outstanding students by offering them some courses in English from the very beginning of their university studies, as well as support in their training. HAP Groups are provided with specific funding from the Valencia Region Ministry of Education in Valencia.
