VLAD THE IMPALER - DRACULA. THE LONELINESS OF THE MONARCH, THE DUALITY OF THE VAMPIRE

[*Modified*] 16/05/2012

Vlad the Impaler Dracula

This cycle will address one of the most powerful myths of the 20th century a diachronic, observing the evolution of the historical character found at the confluence of complex relationships of a convulsive 15th century South-East European socio-political perspective its genesis as a vampire myth in the 19th century by the hand of one of the most memorable pieces of Gothic literature, and finally his film career that enshrines it and crystallises through celluloid as immortal character sentenced to eternal duality. Who was Vlad and how it was transformed in Dracula? Why there was and remains a categorical rejection by the Romanians to Stoker's vampire? What is its symbolic strength, its almost archetypal abstraction? What etymological reasons together named evil forces? These questions and others related to the historical ambiguities, literary contradictions and Vlad - Dracula - the Impaler film solutions will find some answers in this cycle.
