In recent years, the interest of the public authorities in issues related to gender equality has experienced a notable growth. This is reflected in the adoption of a series of laws aimed at removing the obstacles that continue to prevent equality between women and men provided for by law from being truly effective.


Under this legal framework, the different spheres involved in the social structures must adopt strategies that promote the goal of gender equality in their relevant areas of activity and influence. By virtue of its role as an institution that provides values and in compliance with specific regulations, the University, following the laws on gender equality, must, not only promote equality, which is being consolidated throughout the Spanish State, but also the drive towards equality between women and men in the academic sphere.


The Organic Act 3/2007, for the effective equality of women and men, provides for a powerful instrument to promote the achievement of this goal: gender equality plans.
Gender equality plans, as defined in article 46 of the aforementioned Act, are "an orderly set of measures adopted after a diagnosis of the situation, aimed at achieving equal treatment and opportunities between women and men at work, as well as at eliminating discrimination on the grounds of gender. Gender equality plans shall establish the specific equality goals to be achieved, the strategies and practices to be adopted for their achievement, as well as the establishment of effective systems for monitoring and assessing the goals set.

Approval process of the 3rd UNIVERSITY OF ALICANTE PLAN FOR EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN AND MEN (PIUA)

 

Approval by the GENDER EQUALITY COMMITTEE:

Once the Plan was completed by the working group on 8 February 2018, the 3rd PIUA was submitted for the approval of the Gender Equality Committee.

 

Approval by the Negotiating Table:

At the Negotiating Table meeting on 16 February 2018, the proposal approved by the Gender Equality Committee gets the go-ahead of all representatives of the UA trade unions.

 

Approval by the UA Governing Council:

On 26 February 2018, the 3rd University of Alicante Plan for Equal Opportunities between Women and men (2018-2020) was unanimously approved by the Governing Council.

Approval process of the “2nd UNIVERSITY OF ALICANTE PLAN FOR EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN AND MEN (PIUA)”

 

Approval by the GENDER EQUALITY COMMITTEE:

The working group designated by the Gender Equality Committee for the drafting of the second PIUA held five meetings during July, September, October and November 2013. Result of this joint work was the proposal of the “2nd University of Alicante Plan for Equal Opportunities for Women and Men” (PIUA), unanimously approved by the Gender Equality Committee on 10 December 2013.

 

Approval by the Negotiating Table:

At the Negotiating Table meeting of 11 December 2013, the proposal approved by the Gender Equality Committee gets the go-ahead of all representatives of the UA trade unions.

 

Approval by the UA Governing Council:

On 17 December 2013, the “2nd University of Alicante Plan for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men” (2014-2016) was unanimously approved by the Governing Council.

Approval process of the 2nd UNIVERSITY OF ALICANTE PLAN FOR EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN AND MEN

 

Approval by the GENDER EQUALITY COMMITTEE:

During the first term of academic year 2009-2010, the group of experts designed by the Gender Equality Committee developed the plan axis by proposing specific actions that were discussed by all members of the Committee. The result of this intense joint work was the proposal for the 1st Plan for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men of the University of Alicante approved unanimously by the Committed on 3 December 2009.

 

Approval by the Negotiating Table:

At the Negotiating Table meeting on 21 December 2009, the proposal approved by the Gender Equality Committee gets the go-ahead of all representatives of the UA trade unions.

 

Approval by the UA Governing Council:

On 26 January 2010, the 1st Plan for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men of the University of Alicante was submitted to the approval of the Governing Council, which supports the proposal by an overwhelming majority.

 

Official presentation to the university community:

The First Plan was officially presented to the university community at a public ceremony presided over by the UA President on 8 March 2010, as part of the activities organised by the University to celebrate this date.
