The purpose of this call is to regulate the 2020 concession procedure of the urgent call for financial aid of the Social Council of the University of Alicante managed by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Knowledge Transfer, for social innovation projects led by UA teaching and research staff providing immediate responses that allow the revival of the tourism sector.
Proposals must include research and social innovation projects that present the immediate development and implementation of, among others, technological applications, products, services, models and good practices from any field of knowledge and multidisciplinarity. When the implementation of the projects affects people, they should consider the possible gender impact, as well as the inclusion of functional diversity. They should also consider the possible environmental impact. In both cases, corrective measures must be anticipated.
The financial aid granted under this call will be financed with contributions from the Social Council, the Office of the Vice President for Social Responsibility, Inclusion and Equality (UA Social Lab), the University Institute for Tourist Research, Gasterra, the Chair of Tourist Studies Pedro Zaragoza Orts, the Vectalia Chair of Mobility and the Chair of Social Responsibility, both from the UA and business patronage.
The maximum amount destined to finance the subsidies of this subprogram will be 100,000 euros according to budget availability.

This call for research grants maintains the disciplinary perspectives characteristic of the BBVA Foundation's knowledge promotion program, developed in the last two decades, ranging from biomedicine to the humanities. Exceptionally, in correspondence with the current context, this call gives projects a specific formal object: the different facets of SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19, prioritizing basic research, but without neglecting some areas of applied knowledge.
The areas that are the subject of this call are Biomedicine, Big Data and Artificial Intelligence, Ecology and Veterinary Science, Economics and Social Sciences and the Humanities.
The distribution of aid in each of the areas of this call and its allocation will be as follows:
Biomedicine (“Biomed-COVID-19”): 4 grants of up to 250,000 gross euros each will be awarded.
Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (“Data-IA-COVID-19”): 4 grants of up to 150,000 gross euros each will be awarded.
Ecology and Veterinary ("Eco-Vet-COVID-19"): 4 grants of up to € 100,000 gross each will be awarded.
Economics and Social Sciences (“Socioecon-COVID-19”): 4 grants of up to € 100,000 gross each will be awarded.
Humanities (“Human-COVID-19”): 4 grants of up to 75,000 gross euros each will be awarded.
