Ground ruptures (i.e. Earth Fissures and reactivation of pre-existing surface Faults) caused by extraction of Fluids from the subsurface have been observed in hundreds of sedimentary basins worldwide.

Unexpected fissure generation and fault activation associated with anthropogenic land subsidence strongly impact on the development of urban settlements, industrial centers, agricultural and other economic activities.

This workshop is organized in the framework of the UNESCO project ICGP641 M3EF3, two days after the "Workshop on Land subsidence induced by fluid extraction"  organized by te UNESCO Working group on Land Subsidence in Madrid on November 14th, 2017, and will be a great opportunity to discuss the latest research in this field and to identify promising areas of new research.
