SPORTS, LEISURE AND RECREATION IN THE UNITED STATES AND SPAIN

Información general

Este curso totalmente impartido en inglés, se centra en el deporte y la industria del ocio en Estados Unidos y España. Los estudiantes experimentarán de primera mano la riqueza de la cultura española. Las clases serán dinámicas y todos los estudiantes, divididos en grupo, tendrán que interactuar y trabajar juntos. Están previstas varias actividades deportivas al aire libre y se organizarán excursiones a municipios de interés cultural de la provincia de Alicante. Estudiantes procedentes de Illinois, Alicante y de otros países europeos participarán en este programa internacional co-organizado con la Western Illinois University. Las clases contarán con la participación de profesores americanos y de la UA.

A.  Sports, Leisure and Recreation in Spain

OBJECTIVES:

Students will learn about the sports, leisure and recreation activities in Spain with special mention to the public sector, people with disabilities and health promotion.  

 CONTENT:

This will include classroom activities, and practical sessions and field trips. The classroom activities will provide an understanding of the structure of the sports, leisure and recreation field in Spain with special attention to the public sector, sports and recreation leadership and professional opportunities in the field in Spain.

 Classroom activities:

o        Structure and organization of the sports, leisure and recreation field in Spain (Topic 1)

o        The provision of sports, leisure and recreation opportunities in the public sector in the Spain (Topic 2)

o        The provision of sports, leisure and recreation opportunities for people with disabilities in Spain (Topic 3)

o        Physical activity and recreation across the lifespan in Spain. The relationship between recreation and health.  (Topic 4)

 

B. Sports, Leisure and Recreation in the United States

OBJECTIVES:

Students will learn about sports, leisure and recreation in the United States and about their challenging and competitive culture which encourages people to go ‘above and beyond’.  

 CONTENT:

Classroom activities:

o        Structure and organization of the sports, leisure and recreation field in the United States

o        The provision of sports, leisure and recreation opportunities in the public sector in the United States  

o        The provision of sports, leisure and recreation opportunities for people with disabilities in the United States  

o        Physical activity and recreation across the lifespan in the United States. The relationship between recreation and health.  

o        Professional career opportunities in the United States.

 

Evaluation

 Students are required to attend all classes and outdoor activities. Besides, they will work in groups. Class participation and presentations will be included as part of the evaluation.
