General objectives


The aims of this course are described in Ministerial Order CIN/213/2008 of 3 July, establishing the requirements for the recognition of official university degrees qualifying their holders as Professional Nurses.

Graduates must:

  • Be capable of providing technical and professional healthcare in accordance with patients' needs, on the basis of available scientific knowledge and in compliance with the quality and security requirements established in the applicable legal and professional codes.
  • Plan and provide nursing care for persons, families and groups aimed at positive health outcomes, and evaluate the impact of the same using clinical and healthcare guidelines which describe the processes by means of which health problems are diagnosed, treated and cured.
  • Understand and be capable of applying the theoretical and methodological foundations and principles of nursing care.
  • Understand interactive human behaviour on the basis of gender, group or community, within a social  and multicultural context.
  • Design healthcare systems for persons, families and groups, evaluating results and making the necessary amendments on the basis of same.
  • Base healthcare decisions on scientific evidence and available resources.
  • Understand persons as autonomous, independent individuals, without recourse to preconceptions and taking into account their physical, psychological and social aspects, ensuring respect for their opinions, beliefs and values, and guaranteeing their right to privacy through confidentiality and professional secrecy.
  • Promote and respect the patient's right to participate in decision-making processes, on a basis of information, autonomy and informed consent and in accordance with the manner in which they experience their health-illness process.
  • Promote healthy living and self-care and support the application and maintenance of preventive and therapeutic behaviour.
  • Protect the health and welfare of persons, families and groups, guaranteeing their safety.
  • Establish an effective dialogue with patients, families, social groups and colleagues and promote health education .
  • Know and understand the ethical and professional codes of the Spanish nursing profession, including the ethical implications of healthcare processes in the context of a changing world.
  • Know and understand the principles of healthcare financing and use available resources in a suitable manner.
  • Establish mechanisms for the evaluation of situations, taking scientific-technical and quality aspects into account.
  • Be capable of working with the team of professionals forming the basic uni-, multi- and inter-disciplinary unit within which healthcare professionals and personnel operate.
  • Know and understand healthcare information systems.
  • Carry out nursing care taking a holistic approach to healthcare and involving multi-professional cooperation, coordination of procedures and healthcare continuity.
  • Manage strategies for the provision of comfort and symptom relief aimed at patients and their families through the application of palliative care, contributing to alleviate the situation of advanced and terminal patients and their families.








The Degree in Nursing at the University of Alicante consists of a total of 240 credits, taken over four academic years.  60 credits are taken each academic year, 30 each semester.  These credits represent all the theoretical and practical knowledge that students are expected to acquire.

In order to make the course compatible with other activities, students are allowed to take a part-time course consisting of 30 credits per academic year.

General description of the course programme


The course programme is structured around professional skills which will equip the student for professional practice as a Nurse responsible for general care.

The first year of studies leading to the Degree in Nursing has been designed in accordance with current legislation and includes 36 ECTS from the discipline of Health Sciences, comprising the subjects Human Anatomy, Biology, Statistics, Physiology, Biochemistry and Psychology.  The remaining 24 ECTS to complete the 60 core credits correspond to subject matter designed by the proponents with the following rationale:

IT systems, research and innovation in nursing.

This subject combines three professional skills: identifying and using IT skills through competent use of ICT, basing nursing interventions on scientific evidence and available resources, and understanding health IT systems.

This subject is fundamental in terms of promoting student autonomy and independent learning via the use of health information sources, critical selection and analysis of information retrieved and evaluation of applications in clinical practice.  The subject matter provides an introduction to the basic tools and strategies used, which is then developed further in other subjects included in the course programme.

The support role

Communication with patients and their families is one of the basic factors in satisfaction with health care.  This aspect is systematically undervalued in studies of perceptions of quality of health care.

Satisfaction with communication is an end in itself, and the scientific literature has consistently demonstrated that this is a fundamental determinant of patient compliance with health advice, and improves intuition and clinical diagnosis.


The rationale for including Physiopathology in the core subjects is as follows:

  1. Among the basic professional skills which students are expected to acquire, according to Order CIN/2134/2008, are:
    "To understand physiopathological processes and their symptoms; risk factors which determine states of health and illness at different stages throughout the life cycle"
    "To understand the use of and indications for health products associated with nursing care"
    We believe that the concurrent study of Physiopathology (describing the processes which lead to illness and the causes of the diversity of changes in health) and Physiology (describing how the different body systems function) will provide the student with a better understanding of changes to normal function in the human body throughout the life cycle.  Both subjects comprise the basis for the principles of nursing care studied throughout the Degree course.
  2. Since the incorporation of nursing studies into university education, previous and present course programmes have included Medical-Surgical Nursing as a core subject, proposing, among others, the following basic descriptors:
    Physiopathology of the various changes to health; Processes leading to illness; Nursing technology in nursing care of individuals with medical-surgical problems.  These form the cornerstone of the knowledge necessary to understand changes in adult health, identifying the symptoms which may appear at different stages, identifying the care needs arising from health problems, implementing the techniques and procedures of nursing care and establishing a relationship with patients and their families.  All these professional skills have been defined as Nursing Science in the new Nursing studies degree document.
    In the WHO recommendations on the training of health professionals, emphasis is given to an education in individual, public and community health for nurses as agents of health, and to the concept of nursing care as a process which begins with an understanding of humans and their bio-psycho-social condition.  The knowledge, attitudes and skills incorporated gradually onto the course from the second year onwards will move from a focus on health and healthy environments to states of illness, following an approach which emphasises health care throughout the life cycle, and the most common problems.

The course programme continues by examining specific nursing care, in Fundamentals of Nursing;

Fundamentals of Nursing

Learning the fundamentals of nursing is an essential part of the training of future professionals, introducing the student to nursing theory and practice and explaining the function of nursing as a service profession and scientific discipline, thus contributing to a sense of personal responsibility to participate in the development of the profession.  The basic concepts of nursing include studying the evolution over time of care and the inherent anthropological nature of the process of satisfying human needs, whether on an individual, family or community level.

Using this structure as a basis, more specific knowledge related to the discipline is taught so that by the end of the second year the student will begin to acquire an integrated understanding of the problems associated with the process of illness and will gradually learn about the intervention procedures associated with different states of illness.

 The learning process ends with an examination of nursing care in critical and specific situations at the end of the life cycle. The methodology employed to facilitate acquisition of professional skills integrates theoretical, practical and clinical contents and, from the second year onwards, includes 50% of clinical work experience (supervised independent rotational clinical work experience in Health Centres, Hospitals and other care centres, with final assessment of professional skills).  Thus, the degree course complies both with the EU directive concerning regulated professions incorporated in Spanish law and published in the Official State gazette (BOE) of 20 th  November, 2008, and the 90 ECTS of supervised work experience/final project work established in Ministerial Order CIN/2134/2008. 

The final project must present a practical case study, enabling assessment of student ability to "be a nurse", based on the degree objectives.  In the midst of nursing course programme reform and reformulation, it would seem appropriate to reflect on the limits and relationships to establish between nursing and other related fields in order to formalise integration of the knowledge referred to in the ministerial order.

 The  Final Project  Module  consists of one subject: "Final degree project". Attendance-based training corresponds to between 10 and 20% of total activities, which mainly comprise:

  • Supervision by a university teacher.
  • Student oral examination.
  • Compulsory attendance at specialised and primary health care centres or others within the socio-health system which offer practical training.

Training activities which are not attendance-based mainly correspond to independent work carried out by the student to prepare the final project (80% - 90%).

The Module is assessed as follows:

  • 25% corresponds to a report by university teachers and clinical supervisors assessing student acquisition of professional skills.
  • 75% corresponds to compulsory submission of the project and public presentation and defence, assessed on a scale of 0 to 10.


As regards the  Work Experience Module , this consists of 14 subjects in clinical practice, taught in small groups and concurrently with compulsory attendance at specialised and primary health care centres or others within the socio-health system which offer practical training.

  • Agreement with the Spanish Scientific Society of Nursing Graduates ( Sociedad Científica Española Licenciados Enfermería  - SCELE)
  • Agreement with the Vistahermosa Clinic (educational work experience)
  • Agreement with the   Vistahermosa Clinic (paid work experience. This is organized by the University Foundation, but supervised by university teachers from the University College of Nursing)
  • Agreement with the Vistahermosa Clinic (credits awarded for the assisted reproduction nursing course)
  • Agreement with the Association for Child Mental Health from Gestation ( Asociación Salud Mental Infantil desde la Gestación )
  • Agreement with the European School of Alicante ( Escuela Europea de Alicante )
  • Agreement with the Association for the Mentally Ill ( Asociación Enfermos Mentales )
  • Agreement with the Centroccidental Lisandro Alvarado University (Venezuela)
  • Agreement with the Association for Neuro-Psychiatric Professionals in Mental Health in the Valencia Region ( Asociación Neuropsiquiatría-profesionales de la Salud Mental del País Valenciano ) (approved by the Central Board on the 23rd March, 2010, and awaiting approval by the Governing Council)
  • Agreement with the Official College of Nursing in Alicante ( Colegio Oficial de Enfermería de Alicante )
  • Agreement with the Department of Histology and Anatomy at the University (educational work experience).


Within the educational activities comprising the work experience module, 80% correspond to compulsory attendance.  To this end, students rotate between the different specialised and primary health care centres, or others within the socio-health system, which offer practical training, in order to apply theoretical knowledge acquired in the different subjects comprising the work experience module, and to acquire professional skills.  Work experience is conducted under the direct supervision of a work experience tutor at the centre (80-90%).  In addition, clinical sessions and assessments are held at the work experience centre by a university tutor from the University College of Nursing (10-20%).

Non-classroom activities form 20% of the total. The methodology employed consists of reports and registers prepared by students, and the presentation of case studies.

The secuenciación of the plan of studies is realised in base to two premises, in the first place of the health to the illness and of the simple to the complex along the four courses of the degree. It is thus that practise them external of second course are related with the contents of health in the Practicum I, II and III and in the introduction to the knowledge of the hospitable organisation and the basic care to the illness in the Practicum IV. They established in second course so that the alumnado identified the determinantes of health of the communities, groups and people in the first place. Later in third and fourth tackle the asignaturas Practicum in the places of practices with greater interaction with the problems of health/illness more complex and with greater capacity by part of the student for the interaction, being still in all moment a sequence of aims in the acquisition of the competitions.

Distinctive Features


Nuestro grado, ha recibido distintas menciones a la calidad de sus egresados y de su profesorado. Sirva como ejemplo el ranking que elabora la Fundación EVERIS, en la que por segundo año consecutivo ocupamos el primer lugar en el área de Ciencias de la Salud, para las empresas contratadoras a nivel nacional.

Se trata de un plan de estudios estructurado por competencias tal como se recoge en la ficha de verificación del MICIIN, que otorga la capacidad para el ejercicio de la profesión Enfermero/a responsable de cuidados generales. Está inspirado en la incorporación al ordenamiento jurídico español de la Directiva Comunitaria 2005/36/CE del parlamento europeo y del Consejo, de 20 de Noviembre de 2006 relativas al conocimiento de cualificaciones profesionales, recogido en el RD 1837/2008 de 8 de Noviembre, la ficha de verificación del MICIIN y la Ley de Ordenación de las profesiones sanitarias. La filosofía del centro en el proceso de planificación de estudios ha sido la introducción al estudiante de manera progresiva en materias que abarquen procesos desde la salud hacia la enfermedad y en definitiva, desde los procesos más sencillos hasta la máxima complejidad que se adquirirá en el último año de la titulación.

Contamos con salas/laboratorios de simulación clínica, que incorporan los últimos avances tecnológicos, con la capacidad de lograr un proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje práctico interactivo y dinámico, imprescindible para el posterior desarrollo de prácticas externas.

Las asignaturas Practicum son impartidas en pequeños grupos y en rotatorio por distintas unidades en los centros hospitalarios y de atención primaria de salud o aquellos otros centros del sistema sociosanitario, público y privado, que puedan ofrecer elementos de aprendizaje práctico.

Entre profesorado con docencia en este grado, perteneciente a los departamentos vinculados a la Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, encontramos miembros activos de diferentes Proyectos de carácter Europeo, dentro del programa internacional Erasmus+, así como investigadores de la red Family Health Nursing en la que participan países de toda Europa, realizando acciones conjuntas en docencia e investigación con las Universidades de Aberdeen, Northumbria (Newcastle), Coimbra, Lisboa, La Sapienza (Roma), Miami (EEUU). La Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud, para el Grado en Enfermería, a través de su Comisión de Relaciones Internacionales desarrolla las acciones tendentes a facilitar y promover la movilidad mediante los programas ERASMUS y ERASMUS+. Así mismo se establecen convenios propios específicos con diferentes Universidades Europeas y Latinoamericanas para el desarrollo de intercambios docentes, de estudiantes y de participación en líneas de Investigación.

Otro rasgo a destacar, es que las/os alumnas/os que inician sus estudios en el Grado de Enfermería en la Universidad de Alicante puede llegar a obtener el título de Doctor desde la disciplina enfermera, y el área de conocimiento de ciencias de la salud, cursando; el Master Oficial en Investigación en Ciencias de la Enfermería, o el Máster en Emergencias y Catástrofes, o el Master en Salud Pública, o el Master en Envejecimiento Activo y Salud y posteriormente el Doctorado en Ciencias de la salud.

Instalaciones de la Facultad de Ciencias


La Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud cuenta con 3 departamentos distribuidos en dos edificios que engloban un total de165 profesores PDI. Los edificios destinados a la Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud disponen de disponen de despachos, laboratorios docentes y de investigación. No existen barreras arquitectónicas que impidan a personas con discapacidad física acceder a las dependencias de la Facultad y de los departamentos que imparten docencia en la titulación.



La Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud cuenta con 2 Aulas propias con capacidad para 60 personas, equipadas con pizarra, pantalla de proyección fija, retroproyector, videoproyector, ordenador y punto de conexión a la red informática, 12 mesas móviles y 24 sillas móviles cada una.



En las dependencias de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud existe un Seminario Exterior con capacidad para 24 personas dotado de: pantalla de proyección extensible/enrollable, videoproyector NECVT670G, ordendor, monitor, sistema de audio, panel de conexión a internet, camilla y armarios



Se dispone de 5 Laboratorios de Simulación Clínica, con una capacidad para 30 alumnos cada una. Los laboratorios están equipados con pizarra, pantalla de proyección fija, videoproyector, ordenador, lavabos, sillas móviles. Además, estos espacios están dotados de material específico para realizar actividades clínicas de simulación.

· El laboratorio de habilidades practicas cuenta en sus instalaciones con lector de radiografías, 2 cortinas separadoras, 2 cámaras de grabación (Metivision), 10 pantallas de visualización de prácticas, 1 camilla, 1 cama, 1 muñeco de prácticas.

· El laboratorio de urgencias y cuidados críticos dispone de: 2 camillas, 2 camas, 2 muñecos de prácticas, 2 lavabos, 3 cámaras de grabación (Metevisión), 1 mesa móvil de trabajo, 1 armario móvil de trabajo, material diverso para prácticas, 2 sillas móviles, 1 silla fija.

· El laboratorio de hospitalización adultos/materno-infantil dispone de: 2 lavabos, 1 mesa móvil de trabajo, 2 camas, 2 cortinas separadoras, 2 cunas, 1 incubadora, 1 silla móvil, 2 armarios apoyo, 1 mesa de atención, 1 peso, 3 Cámaras fijas para simulaciones (Metivision).

· Laboratorio de nutrición y dietética cuenta con: 25 sillas plegables con pala, 1 mesa para el profesor, 1 ordenador de mesa (torre + monitor), 1 proyector, 1 pantalla para proyector, 1 pizarra blanca, 3 armarios, 1 banco de trabajo con armarios, 1 esqueleto anatómico, 1 báscula pesabebés, 1 tanita BC418MA.

· Laboratorio aprendizaje experiencial presenta en sus instalaciones: Pantalla de proyección extensible/enrollable, ordenador portátil, video proyector Hitachi, sistema de audio.


Salones de actos

La Facultad dispone de Salón de Actos con capacidad para 70 personas, dotada de pantalla de proyección extensible/enrollable, videoproyectos NECNP300, ordenador, dispositivos para viodeconferencias y videostreaming, sistema de audio y conexión JS1/A en pared.


Otras dependencias

La Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud cuenta además en sus instalaciones con una Sala de Control de Laboratorios dotada de: pantalla de proyección extensible/enrollable, vídeoproyector NECVT670G, ordenador + monitor, sistema de audio, panel de conexión JS1/A en pared, 1 camilla y armarios. Se ha habilitado un espacio para la delegación de alumnos de los diferentes Grados.


Convenios con empresas e instituciones para la realización de prácticas externas

La Universidad de Alicante ha formalizado convenios con diferentes empresas privadas e instituciones públicas, para la realización de prácticas externas por parte del alumnado de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud que así lo solicite. Dichas prácticas son supervisadas por un tutor académico. Para los estudios de Enfermería y Nutrición contamos con 12 hospitales y 3 Centros de Psiquiatría para Atención Especializada, 122 Centros de Atención Primaria adscritos a Consellería de Sanidad Universal y Salud Pública e Instituciones de carácter privado. También se realizan prácticas en los centros de asistencia geriátrica y de salud mental de la Consellería de Igualdad y Políticas Inclusivas así como en centros privados con los que existe convenio de colaboración.


Convenios con universidades para intercambio de estudiantes (Erasmus, SICUE y otros)

La Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud mantiene un contacto constante con empresarios del sector clínico con el fin de actualizar y ampliar la posibilidad de realizar los convenios pertinentes, tanto para facilitar las prácticas en el grado como para el desarrollo profesional en la industria de nuestros egresados. El alumnado de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Salud disfruta además de la posibilidad de participar en programas de intercambio académico con numerosas universidades, dentro de los programas Erasmus, SICUE, Aitana y DRAC. Asimismo, existen convenios en vigor con universidades españolas (SICUE), y para el programa de intercambio no europeo.
