General course programme

The subject areas and subjects included in the Master’s degree are structured into three modules:

Module 1: Basic training in health and safety management at work.

Module 2: Techniques in health and safety management at work and technical specialisation.

Module 3: Work experience and Master’s Degree Final Project.

All subjects, including the work experience, are obligatory in compliance with Annex VI of Royal Decree 39/1997,

thereby ensuring the successful completion of 60 ECTS necessary for the Master’s Degree as well as comprehensive training in the areas of: Preventive Measures for Occupational Safety; Industrial Hygiene; Psycho-sociology and Ergonomics,

All subjects are taught according to a teach-to-learn methodology requiring student attendance, during which the following activities will take place: lectures, practical tutorials, small group activities, seminars (or complementary activities) and evaluation.

This system enables students to adapt with ease to different methodologies.

In particular:

  1. The lectures will combine traditional lectures with creative and experiential learning which will encourage the participation of students through, for example, the development of tutorial based practical activities.
  2. The practical sessions are aimed at the development of practical work of a collaborative nature, or that based on an applying the ideas covered in the lectures. Where necessary, these practical sessions will take place in a laboratory with computers so that the theories and practical methods acquired are directly applied, enabling a more effective consolidation of knowledge.
  3. The small group activities will focus on practical problem solving exercises, or tasks and activities to be carried out both in the tutorials and in the student’s own time. These aforementioned activities will enhance some of the cross curricular competences of the Master’s, such as problem-solving skills, teamwork, interpersonal skills, and communication skills.
  4. Theseminars in the Master’s programme, will be led by visiting professors from different companies who will focus on relevant, practical and real-life workplace situations.
  5. A considerable amount of work needs to be done by students in their own time, such as the Master’s Degree Final Project and the extra work required for the assessment of certain subjects. Therefore, all subjects will use the University of Alicante’s Campus Virtual, as well as the Moodle  e-learning platform. These e-learning facilities will enable professors to provide a structure for the expected knowledge to be acquired by students, and to publish the deadlines for submission of all assignments due over the course of the Master’s programme. This will assist students to manage and organise their time effectively.
  6. The main evaluation objective is to quantify the degree of student compliance with the educational objectives. Moreover, in all subjects, the assessment will take into consideration the following assumptions:
    • There are predefined rules which are known in advance by students. It must be consistent with the set objectives.
    • It covers all levels of knowledge and student activities in relation to each subject.
    • There will be various forms of assessment such as final examinations, evaluation of individual or group practical work, assessment of oral presentations of papers.

Resources and Facilities
