Studied industrial chemistry at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität in Münster.
He started his freelancer career as a designer of car colors before he switched to a more scientific occupation of colors.
Especially interference pigments became his main topic of work.
He influenced the development of new instruments as well as new pigments by his ideas and publications.
He was co-founder of a new committee of ASTM which published in 2008 the "Standard Practice for Multiangle Color Measurement of Interference Pigments".
ABSTRACT
How can we dismantle color differences? Experiments and anaylsis with interference pigments
Due to the fact that interference pigments behave totally different when mixed together, it is a challenge to adjust them in real OEM or refinish colors. It is also a big challenge to find an adequate interference pigment for such an adjustment.
This work deals with similar interference pigments of two manufacturers. Besides direct comparison of color and sparkle the target was to find out how they can be adjusted. For this case original OEM color formulations were used to define the absorbing part of the color. „Playing“ with selected interference pigments shows interesting results.
